Changes In Government Policy
EDM number 381 in 1989-90, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 25/01/1990.
That this House welcomes the Government's intent to withdraw the compulsory identity card scheme for football supporters, as yet further testament to the Prime Minister's recent policy of making one U-turn per month, following as it does the reversals of decisions previously taken to reject government funds for haemophiliacs given HIV-infected Factor 8, war widows widowed before 1973, investors in Barlow Clowes International, to induce the clearing banks to administer the student loans scheme, and to privatise nuclear power all reversed since July 1989; commends the Government to apply consistently this new 180 degree bend policy nostrum over the next six months as over the last six months to the Poll Tax, the auctioning of the ITV Channel 3 franchises, the reform of the national Health Service and the privatisation of the remainder of the electricity supply industry.
