Scientific Sanctions Against Israel

EDM number 363 in 1989-90, proposed by George Galloway on 23/01/1990.

That this House welcomes the decision of the European Parliament to suspend scientific co-operation with Israel in protest at continued violations of human rights by the occupation forces in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem; notes that the motion was put by Italian Parliamentarians following the violent attack on the peace demonstration around the Old City walls in Jerusalem; and concurs with the judgement of the Israeli newspaper, Yediot Aharanot, that 'There is no under-estimating Europe, certainly not when for the first time in our existence...Europe decides unanimously, including our best friends, to impose a sanction against us.'.
