Remuneration Of Councillors

EDM number 361 in 1989-90, proposed by Andrew Welsh on 23/01/1990.

That this House states its opposition to the Government's current proposals regarding councillors' allowances; and calls for the introduction of a fair system of remuneration on a salaried basis which would recognise the nature and extent of local government responsibilities, would attract the highest calibre of individuals to serve full time in local government and increase democratic accountability to the electors.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
