London Air Ambulance
EDM number 335 in 1989-90, proposed by Harry Cohen on 18/01/1990.
That this House notes that the ambulance helicopter sponsored by the Daily Express, normally staffed by professional ambulancemen is, during the current industrial dispute, using an ex-ambulanceman who was sacked for fraud two years ago and a flight engineer who is basically a maintenance man; queries whether they have proper medical insurance for the role they are performing, or the appropriate up-to-date paramedical skills to help members of the public injured or ill, or in the event of an emergency; considers that this shabby, second-rate provision is unfair to individuals in desparate need of proper paramedical expertise; and concludes that the Government, in its refusal to settle the ambulance dispute, even by referral to arbitration, displays that it does not care a jot about providing a decent, skilled Ambulance Service for the public.
