Summer Time
EDM number 331 in 1989-90, proposed by Bill Walker on 18/01/1990.
That this House notes the proposals contained in the Summer Time Consultative Document would, if implemented, impose upon the people of Scotland a system of timekeeping in the dark winter months which will take no account of the hazards facing school children in the parts of Scotland where sunrise will be at 10:30 a.m., or the difficulties faced by farmers, the road haulage and construction industries as well as commuters throughout Scotland when black ice and fog on Scotland's roads leads to the additional risks created by a sudden drop in temperature at dawn; and further notes that the United States, one of the most efficient internal economies of the world, operates in up to five different time zones.
