Poll Tax Level In Mid Suffolk
EDM number 258 in 1989-90, proposed by Jeff Rooker on 08/01/1990.
That this House supports the letter of protest sent by the Mid Suffolk District Council to the Department of the Environment about the proposed level of community charge or poll tax; believes the council is quite right to draw attention to the fact that it will be required to set a community charge of neither ú235 nor ú278 being figures published by the Department of Environment but at least ú306 because the Department has taken no account of the use by this council in 1989-90 of capital reserves to cushion the rate levy and that inadequate allowance has been made for inflation; believes the council is fully justified in drawing the attention of the honourable Member for Suffolk Central to their letter of protest and hopes that in due course he will make clear whether he supports his elected local authority or those in Whitehall who think they know best.
