Comtel Ltd And Disconnection Of Telephone Services
EDM number 232 in 1989-90, proposed by Terry Lewis on 18/12/1989.
That this House welcomes the disconnection from the telephone network of the Manchester based chatline company Comtel Ltd., for engaging routinely in purveying messages of a sexually explicit nature and other matters; wonders why its associate companies have escaped a similar fate; is surprised that such disconnection has taken so long, in view of the fact that the honourable Member for Worsley has presented sufficient evidence to the Director General of Oftel and others for many months about this company's activities; and in the light of this, urges Her Majesty's Government, yet again, to amend the Telecommunications Act 1984 to prevent further abuse.
