Part Time Workers' Benefits

EDM number 219 in 1989-90, proposed by Archy Kirkwood on 18/12/1989.

That this House, recognising the financial hardship already experienced by part-time workers and recognising the essential role that unemployment benefit has had in supplementing the wages paid to part-time workers, condemns the recent changes in social security rules which will henceforth deny any payment of unemployment benefit to those in part-time work earning more than ú43 per week; and calls on the Government to abandon the new scheme forthwith as it is a disincentive to work and a further unjustified attack on the living standards of the low paid.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
