Food Irradiation
EDM number 214 in 1989-90, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 14/12/1989.
That this House welcomes the survey of retailers on their intentions regarding irradiated food, carried out by the London Food Commission and Friends of the Earth; notes the overwhelming opposition of retailers to the idea of selling irradiated food, the overwhelmimg opposition of consumers, and the overwhelming oppositiion of pressure groups, enforcement agencies, and health bodies; and calls upon the Government to start putting people first, by tackling the root causes of food poisoning, rather than imposing suspect technological quick-fixes on the population.
This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
