Public Inquiry Into Re-Chem (Pontypool);amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 212A1 in 1989-90, proposed by Teresa Gorman on 12/01/1990.

Leave out from 'House' to end and add 'notes that Welsh Office scientists have found no trace of contamination from polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) around the Rechem plant at Pontypool in South Wales; recognises that Rechem has an excellent record in safely disposing of PCBs from the United Kingdom as well as those imported from other countries which are ill-equipped to dispose of toxic waste; further notes that a recent report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate on Pollution recorded levels at Llanelli which were 30 times higher than the background levels while the recorded levels around the Rechem plant reflect normal background levels and therefore pose no danger to health; believes that there are no grounds for a public inquiry into Rechem's operation as all the relevant scientific information is already available; and that the sole motivation of those calling for such an inquiry is to gain cheap publicity regardless of its effect on the local population.'.

This is a ammendment to 212.
