Conduct Of The Rt. Hon. Member For Hertsmere

EDM number 21 in 1989-90, proposed by Malcolm Bruce on 21/11/1989.

That this House has no confidence in the Secretary of State for Transport, the Right honourable Member for Hertsmere, because of his refusal to listen to opposition and Conservative calls to remove nuclear power from his proposals to privatise the electricity industry during the passage of the Electricity Act, his failure to discover or to act on the true costs of producing and clearing up after nuclear power, his failure to produce a workable plan for electricity privatisation despite pushing the measure through Parliament, his insistence on the benefits of nuclear power and the need for new nuclear stations which played a major part in the costly inquiry over the now to be abandoned Hinkley Point C and for leaving his successor at the Department of Energy to make the decisions and take the blame for actions and omissions which are his responsibility.
