Godfrey Ermen Playing Field, Abbey Hey, Manchester

That this House shares the concern of residents of Abbey Hey in the Gorton division of Manchester that commercial development and exploitation of Godfrey Ermen playing field would destroy a valued local amenity; believes that the Manchester and Salford Playing Fields Society should respond to this local disquiet by stating clearly and unequivocally that it has no intention of disposing of the playing field for financial gain or to the detriment of the locality; has its suspicions aroused by the persistent failure of the Manchester and Salford Playing Fields Society to provide such a clear and straightforward response; deplores the failure of Manchester and Salford Playing Fields Society to respond in a straightforward way without preconditions to the request by the Right honourable Member for Manchester, Gorton for a meeting with local residents and councillors to discuss this issue; and is depressed by the offensive manner in which David Gallop as secretary of the Manchester and Salford Playing Fields Society has deliberately fobbed off several letters from the Right Honourable Member seeking such a meeting.
