Unsolicited Free Magazines And Children
EDM number 185 in 1989-90, proposed by Tim Devlin on 12/12/1989.
That this House notes with misgiving the production by Hamfield Publications Limited of Plus Magazine dated 22nd November which was distributed free through 42 regional newspapers, and which featured a lurid and suggestive front page advertising an item about juvenile prostitution and a further article entitled, Children of Divorce, which was likely to cause worry and depression to children who read it; considers that such a magazine is not appropriate for free and unsolicited delivery to households throughout Britain where it may be freely perused by children of all ages; and calls upon the Advertising Standards Authority to investigate the matter and make representations to Hamfield Publications immediately.
