Darkness At Ten

EDM number 162 in 1989-90, proposed by John Home Robertson on 06/12/1989.

That this House notes that the sun will rise before 9.00 a.m. in most of Scotland on the shortest day, 21st December, and that people will be able to travel to work and school in natural light; welcomes the fact that Greenwich Mean Time takes account of the rising and setting of the sun over the British Isles; respectfully suggests that not even the Prime Minister can change the laws of nature; notes the overwhelming opposition in Scotland to the Government's Green Paper proposal to treat winter as summer and thereby postpone the midwinter sunrise to 10.00 a.m. in parts of Scotland; and calls on the Government to abandon this absurd and dangerous proposal.

This motion has been signed by a total of 42 MPs.
