Antarctica

EDM number 1460 in 1989-90, proposed by Alan Meale on 25/10/1990.

That this House urges Her Majesty's Government to do everything in its power to persuade all other countries of the world that Antarctica should be declared a wilderness park within which the extraction of oil and minerals and any other commercial, military and polluting activities should not be permitted; and further urges that every support should be given to the special meeting arranged by the Antarctic Treaty parties to be held in Chile later this year whose purpose is to work towards this objective.
