Movement Of Toxic Waste And Accident On M1
EDM number 1439 in 1989-90, proposed by Peter Hardy on 23/10/1990.
That this House notes with concern the accident on the M1 motorway which apparently resulted in the leakage of dangerous poison from a load of toxic waste material and considers that this incident is yet one more example of the sheer inadequacy of central policy in regard to the management, supervision and shipment of toxic material; wonders how many more examples of deplorable inadequacy will have to occur before there is proper regulation; whilst at the same time noting that the M1 motorway is scarcely an appropriate road for such transportation, given the density of traffic with the consequent risk of delay or accident which inevitably illustrates the case for railway investment as well as that for the environmental protection already mentioned.
