Education Appointments By Derbyshire County Council (No.2)
EDM number 1360 in 1989-90, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 25/07/1990.
That this House deplores the recent appointment of the 1989 Labour Chairman of Education Committee as the 1990 Director of Education for Derbyshire which inevitably raises substantial disquiet about the impartiality of the selection process, and especially deplores the taking by the majority Labour group of all politically appointed places on school bodies for Labour's nominees contrary to the advice and view of the Labour Party's official spokesman, the honourable Member for Blackburn, as confirmed in a letter to Chesterfield Liberal Democrats condemning such practices, with the consequences that teachers and education in Derbyshire are now more than ever at risk of political control and influence; and calls on the Secretary of State for Education to introduce legislation in the next session of Parliament to prevent abuse of power and political control of children's education.
This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
