Proposed Development Of County Hall

EDM number 1359 in 1989-90, proposed by Tony Banks on 25/07/1990.

That this House deplores the failure of the Secretary of State for the Environment to reject outright the planning application to turn County Hall into a luxury hotel; remembers that County Hall was built by the London County Council to be the home of London local government; believes that the conversion of County Hall into luxury accommodation for rich tourists and wealthy residents is a grotesque and studied insult to London, her people and the long and proud tradition of local democracy; and calls upon the Labour Party to reaffirm the policy that when a London-wide strategic authority is created for the capital city its headquarters will once again be in County Hall.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
