Conduct Of Mr. Charles Powell

EDM number 1293 in 1989-90, proposed by Brian Sedgemore on 17/07/1990.

That this House calls on both the Head of the Civil Service and the Select Committee on the Treasury and Civil Service to investigate allegations by prominent historians that Mr Charles Powell lied and/or misrepresented what they had said about Germany and the Germans at a meeting at Chequers; and believes that these investigations should be carried out urgently so as to mitigate the current crisis in Anglo-German relations and to pave the way for constructive developments in the European Community.
