No Confidence in Her Majesty's Government

EDM number 1277 in 1989-90, proposed by Paddy Ashdown on 12/07/1990.

That this House has no confidence in Her Majesty's Government's ability to safeguard Britain's interests in Europe and ensure that Britain plays a full and honourable part in creating a new democratic, prosperous and peaceful Europe as long as it contains a senior Member such as the Right honourable Member for Cirencester and Tewkesbury who can so damage Britain's standing and international reputation by freely giving an interview hysterically insulting Britain's European allies and comparing European Commissioners to Adolf Hitler; believes that his reported withdrawal of remarks made in the interview, while welcome, is not sufficient, given the Department of Trade and Industry's important role in working with Britain's European allies; and calls on the Prime Minister to remove him from office or for the Right honourable Member for Cirencester and Tewkesbury to accept, for once, responsibility for his actions and resign.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
