Closure Of Brodsworth Colliery
EDM number 1261 in 1989-90, proposed by Michael Welsh on 10/07/1990.
That this House condemns British Coal for its decision to close Brodsworth Colliery in South Yorkshire, with a loss of 700 jobs in an area of over 10 per cent. unemployment; notes that this pit has had investment of over ú5 million in new face equipment this year, would be making a profit within the next two months and that there are over 10 million tons of workable coal at this pit; and therefore calls upon the Secretary of State for Energy to urgently meet the Chairman of British Coal and instruct him to have another look at the situation at Brodsworth Colliery before locking underground for ever 10 million tons of the country's coal.
This motion has been signed by a total of 41 MPs.
