Nelson Mandela And The Ira

EDM number 1221 in 1989-90, proposed by David Shaw on 03/07/1990.

That this House notes Mr Mandela's call for the United Kingdom Government to negotiate with the IRA; further notes that Mr Mandela is a guest of this country; calls upon Her Majesty's Government to urge Mr Mandela to acquaint himself with the facts of his host country before wilfully engaging in unfriendly and disgraceful acts which cause grave offence to the United Kingdom and which give encouragement to the country's enemies; and further calls on Her Majesty's Government to urge Mr Mandela unequivocally to condemn the perpetrators of all violence and terrorism carried out both in the United Kingdom and in South Africa.
