British Gas Pricing Policy
EDM number 1202 in 1989-90, proposed by Tony Benn on 27/06/1990.
That this House notes the continuing disincentives to energy produced by British Gas pricing policy where, below the 25,000 therm threshold, customers can be paying significantly more for gas than above; further notes the meeting of Coventry City Council Finance Committee on 26th June, which decided to turn up the heat and leave open the windows in 14 schools, old people's homes and sheltered flats in order to use up an extra 56,000 therms before November 1990 and therefore save the council nearly ú30,000; and considers a pricing policy which encourages the waste of gas in order to save public money crazy and in urgent need of amendment.
