Industrial Deafness Benefit Rules (No.1)

That this House deplores the fact that not all workers who suffer noise-induced deafness caused by their work are entitled to industrial injury pensions even when they can provide medical evidence of the cause of their injury; notes that the current list of prescribed occupations has denied individuals who have worked in glass manufacture the right to claim pensions despite the fact that noise levels in certain parts of glass manufacture can reach the highest levels in the United Kingdom; believes that it is unfair that glass workers who suffer from hearing loss have been denied their right to claim disability pensions for noise-induced deafness; calls for compensation and pensions for all workers and ex-workers who can prove noise-induced deafness and who have been denied making claims in the past because of the list; and demands that pensions be granted in future solely on the basis of medical proof of damage and of an individual's need.
