Labour Party Failure To Pay Teachers In Hackney
EDM number 1168 in 1989-90, proposed by Simon Hughes on 22/06/1990.
That this House notes with concern the under-payment and non-payment of teachers and other school workers by the Labour-controlled London Borough of Hackney exposed by a recent report in Computer Weekly; condemns the fact that when a shortage of teachers in London exists Hackney Council's computer payroll system is in such a mess that some teachers have felt they had no option but to resign; applauds the efforts of Councillor Colin Beadle, Leader of the Opposition Liberal Democrat Group on Hackney Council, to draw to the attention of the people of Hackney this disastrous mismanagement which is threatening the future of local children; and supports Councillor Beadle's call for a public inquiry to be made at the next full council meeting on 27th June.
This motion has been ammended, see 777A1.
