That this House is deeply dismayed that the Trident agreement violates the spirit of the missile technology control regime and sets the wrong example for other aspirant nuclear weapon states; is disturbed by the Government's dismissal of the benefits of nuclear-free zones, despite the support given to them under Article VII of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty; recalls the commitment made by Treaty member states in the final document of the review conference of the Treaty in 1985 (NPT/CONF./III/61/I) to call upon the nuclear weapons states party to the Treaty to resume trilateral United States/Union of Soviet Socialist Republic/United Kingdom negotiations towards a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty; and notes with concern that the United Kingdom has ignored this, although the United States and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics have been actively involved in verification research.
