War Pensioners And The Poll Tax And The Honourable Member For Cardiff Central
EDM number 1138 in 1989-90, proposed by Alun Michael on 20/06/1990.
That this House congratulates Councillor Jon Owen Jones, the Labour Vice Chairman of Finance on Cardiff City Council, for identifying the plight of war pensioners whose reward for being entitled to a war pension is to lose their entitlement to full poll tax rebate and to the members of the city council of all parties who supported his proposal that all war pensioners be allowed the maximum 80 per cent. relief; and contrasts his constructive approach to that of the honourable Member for Cardiff Central who condemned the poll tax as a back-bencher, yet as a Minister supports the poll tax, against the interests of his own constituents.
