Marketing Of Milk Powder And Anti-Diarrhoeal Drugs In Developing Nations
EDM number 1123 in 1989-90, proposed by David Steel on 18/06/1990.
That this House notes with concern the content of the recent First Tuesday programme which claimed the health of young children in developing nations continues to suffer considerably as a result of the ready availability of milk powder and anti-diarrhoeal drugs over the counter to parents who, without proper guidance, use the milk powder and drugs for children below the recommended minimum age; further notes the aggressive and irresponsible marketing of these products by some of the companies involved; therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government to urge greater responsibility from the companies in marketing; and calls upon the companies themselves to strengthen their efforts to ensure that their products are used appropriately.
