Libya
EDM number 1069 in 1989-90, proposed by Henry Bellingham on 06/06/1990.
That this House welcomes the speech of His Royal Highness Prince Idris Al-Senussi, great nephew of the late King Idris I of Libya, and heir presumptive to the Libyan throne, when he addressed an all Party meeting in the House on 26th April; notes that in his speech he made several important points, his deep felt regret and sorrow on behalf of the Libyan people for the murder of WPC Fletcher in St. James's Square, his total rejection of any kind of support, direct or indirect to terrorist organisations, his own commitment to a constitutional monarchy in Libya with a Parliamentary base, and his confidence in and support for British and European industry trading with a wealthy and democratic Libya; and, in the light of the above, looks forward to Libya following the example set by numerous central European countries, and moving swiftly towards free and fair elections.
