Common Fisheries Policy And Unfair Competition
EDM number 1041 in 1989-90, proposed by John D Taylor on 22/05/1990.
That this House notes that fishing boats from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland operate under the same Common Fisheries Policy in search for the same fish in the Irish Sea; deplores the unfair competition caused by the Dublin based Irish Lights which requires fishing boats in Northern Ireland, but not those based in the Republic of Ireland, to pay annual light dues; and requests the Government to refer this issue to the European Community Commission in Brussels for consideration under the Community guidelines for unfair competition.
