European Super League

EDM number 1821 in 2017-19, proposed by Graham Jones on 12/11/2018.

That this House acknowledges recent reports in Die Spiegel newspaper that association football clubs in the UK are planning to break away from UEFA Champions League and form a new group that would be known as the European Super League; expresses concern at these plans and the damaging effect it could have on football across the UK, particularly grassroots football; notes this proposal is based on ongoing greed by the top clubs; opposes such changes and the underhand manner in which the European Super League clubs have discussed this issue; and calls on the Government along with the Football Association, the Premier League and the English Football League to take the necessary measures to prevent such an initiative.
