Ex-Carillion Staff At British Museum

EDM number 1243 in 2017-19, proposed by Chris Stephens on 08/05/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Companies, Employment, Industrial relations, Insolvency and Museums and galleries.

That this House believes that the recent collapse of multinational company Carillion, which provided support services at the British Museum, is yet another example of why privatisation is not working for our culture sector; is concerned that the 100 staff on the British Museum contract are now being paid by the receivers and face an uncertain future; is further concerned that staff and their unions are being kept in the dark about plans; urges the Government to honour its commitment to support those affected by Carillion's insolvency by intervening to ensure that staff and their union representatives are kept fully informed of developments; insists that ex-Carillion staff's jobs, pensions and terms and conditions must be protected; calls for these jobs and services to be brought back in-house; and further calls on the Government to launch an urgent review of the impact of budget cuts and outsourcing on jobs and services at our national museums and galleries, following previous privatisation failures at our world-renowned arts and heritage sites.
